I grew up in Suffolk in the 1990s and spent my weekends cycling the quiet lanes to abandoned wartime airfields. It was the beginning of a lifelong interest in history, the Second World War, and the 8th Air Force that has led to a career as an academic and public historian.

  • PhD in History, MA in Historical Research and BA Hons in History, all from Lancaster University

  • Fellow of the Royal Historical Society

  • Fulbright Scholar (Pittsburgh, 2010)

  • Member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides

  • Co-editor of the British Journal for Military History (2022-4)

  • Trustee of the American Library (Norwich), Sulgrave Manor (Northants) and the D-Day Story (Portsmouth)

  • Author/editor of six books

  • My first, Allies in Memory, was shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society's Gladstone Prize.
