About Me

I grew up in Suffolk in the 1990s and spent my weekends cycling the quiet lanes to abandoned airfields. It was the beginning of a lifelong interest in history, the Second World War and the 8th Air Force that has led to a career as an academic and public historian.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides and have served as co-editor of the British Journal for Military History.

I am currently trustee of the American Library (Norwich), Sulgrave Manor (Northants) and the D-Day Story (Portsmouth).

I am the author/editor of six books. My first book, Allies in Memory, was shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society's Gladstone Prize. 

In 2010 I was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh and recently I have had research scholarships at the Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford and the George Washington Library, Mount Vernon.
